Member Spotlight: Hedland Psychologists
Our Member of the Month for October is Caroline Rodgers from Hedland Psychologists
We caught up with Caroline to find out a little more about her fantastic business and what they have to offer.
We asked Caroline what is the motivation behind Hedland Psychologists?
I love my job as a Psychologist and am very passionate about working and supporting people. Seeing the awaking of hope and improved mental well-being through psychological principles is extremely rewarding. Likewise, when attending workplaces and delivering toolbox chats/Mental Health First Aid training, it provides an opportunity to visit workplaces, equip people with extended knowledge on local services, strategies and improved confidence to assist others when the time arises.
My favourite parts are seeing positive changes in people, visiting various workplaces, and improving workplaces’ approaches to mental health. The advantages of being in Hedland is “no traffic lights” it is great to drive places and not be regularly stopped by traffic lights!. On a more serious side, whilst Hedland is blessed with numerous support entities for wellbeing, there is minimal qualified, experienced psychological support. Subsequently, the variety of work required is broad and encompassing.
How big is the team behind Hedland Psychologists?
Providing face-to-face local support there is only myself currently. Natalie is our Operations Coordinator, who is based in Perth and provides excellent administration support. Natalie has been with us for 3 years and delivers excellent support and confidentiality. Additionally, we have contract Masters Qualified Counsellors & Psychologists providing online support, a couple I have worked with for around 15 years.
What services or products do Hedland Psychologists offer?
We provide mental health support for individuals and deliver workplace initiatives for an improved Psychosocially Mentally Healthy workplace.
Focusing on individuals, we provide counselling, diagnosis and reports.
On the workplace platform we provide critical incident support, Fitness for Work reports along with workplace mental health training.
We asked Caroline what are her hobbies and interests outside of work life?
I try to undertake physical fitness several times a week, which is so important for a person’s mental wellbeing.
And how long have you been a PHCCI member and why did you join the Chamber?
Hedland Psychologists joined PHCCI around 3 years ago, its a great way to keep across other businesses, meet people and provide a social avenue for other business owners.
What are some of the biggest issues for running your business?
Would like to see Hedland Psychologists, grow, attain additional psychologists and really further create a significant footprint providing professional psychological support service for Hedland and the Pilbara region.
We receive no government funding for providing the highly valued psychological service and are excluded from most grants as we are not a “not for profit”. It would be great to see some changes in this area and more support from State and Federal Government to provide Rural and Remote Psychological support.
The biggest issues we face include operational overheads ie accommodation, fuel, insurances, and recruiting additional qualified experienced psychologists.
We asked Caroline if she could tell us something that her employees may not know about her that she could share with the rest of Port Hedland?
Historically, I have enjoyed playing music, singing and scuba diving.
Hedland Psychologists were the winners of the PHCCI Best Micro Business and the Best Overall Business for 2022.
In addition they were finalists in the WA Community Achievement Awards for Regional Western Australia for 2022.
