Member Spotlight: Essential First Aid Training
For the April member spotlight the team caught up with Cat Allen the owner of Essential First Aid Training.
We asked Cat What is the motivation behind Essential First Aid Training?
Essential First Aid training offers flexible options for individuals and groups, early starts, after hours whenever suits the client. Most people in town refresh First Aid often and CPR yearly so I was motivated to offer Training that is fun, entertaining but also empowering and highly educational. While First Aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation are serious topics I don’t believe the courses have to be sterile and clinical. I get a huge sense of job satisfaction when people walk out of my courses with a smile and tell me that they have had a great day.
What services or products do you offer?
Currently on my Scope of training I offer:
Provide Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation. Provide First Aid. Provide Advanced First Aid. Remote First Aid. Occupational First Aid. Education Care setting. First Aid (for Childcare workers).
Advances Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy,I also offer Mining related Safety courses, including: Low Voltage Rescue Confined Space Entry and Gas Testing Atmospheres
My favourite course of all is Mental Health First Aid. I am extremely passionate about teaching Mental Health First Aid to the community because the reality is that there is not a lot of access to professionals for Mental Illness in the Pilbara. This is a huge issue and I believe if we as friends, family members and colleagues can interfere early we can make a huge difference!
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work life?
Working out in my Cross Fit gym, outdoor activities and like many Pilbara folk…enjoying beverages and snacks with friends in an outdoor setting.
What are the biggest issues for running your business?
I am pretty lucky, I don’t have too many issues. The community is always generous with lending me spaces to rent for training. Especially the Marine Rescue and Category 5/ Iron Training! Thank you so much guys!
The Annie Dolls/ Barry Manikins do what they are told, go where I tell them to go, don’t talk back so on a staffing level I am very fortunate.
Except for the time my car was stolen and they were kidnapped for a whole 24 hours. Lucky I got them all back unviolated!
