Hedland Economic Initiative
About the Hedland Economic Initiative
The Hedland Economic Initiative is an informal collaboration of various levels of government, agencies, organisations, industry, businesses, and the community. Each participant brings unique networks, expertise, and specialisations to collectively promote economic and infrastructure development and investment, designed to improve liveability and ultimately benefiting Hedland.
Our Origins
The Hedland Economic Initiative is the latest iteration of the Hedland Collective, founded in 2017 with the support of BHP. The initiative provides a platform for the community to work together for the betterment of Hedland through a collaborative impact model. The aim is not to replicate existing services and resources but to bring organisations together to achieve outcomes that no single organisation could achieve alone.
Purpose of the Hedland Economic Initiative
The purpose of the Hedland Economic Initiative is to drive collaborative action to empower economic and infrastructure development, as well as promote investment initiatives that will improve liveability and result in the overall improvement of Hedland. This will be achieved through the utilisation of agreed collective impact principles.
What do we do?
The Hedland Economic Initiative collates all current and forecast Hedland Projects Pipeline information. This information is publicly broadcast to encourage businesses and entrepreneurs by identifying projects and new supply chain opportunities. Projects that address identified community needs through economic and infrastructure development are scored and prioritised using the Priority Project Investment Pathway (PPIP). Comprehensive business cases are created to secure funding and assemble the necessary inputs for implementation in Hedland.
Who is involved?
The Hedland Economic Initiative is led by a multi-disciplinary and cross-representative Steering Group, supported by Sub-Groups representing Business Entrepreneurs/Investors, Tourism, First Nations People, and Transport/Freight/Logistics. The Steering Group includes representatives from Regional Development Australia – Pilbara (RDA-P), Pilbara Development Commission (PDC), Town of Port Hedland (TOPH), Port Hedland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHCCI), Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA), Port Hedland International Airport (PHIA), Pilbara Tourism Association (PTA), local First Nations businesses, industry, and real estate.
